For Families

Partners/Spouses

New Zealand is open to a growing number of relationships; whether gay or straight, married or unmarried, you can apply to obtain a visa based on partnership or plan to marry. The length of the visa and type (temporary or resident) that you can obtain will depend on your own circumstances, including whether you are living together. We have guided countless clients through this process, often involving complex and special circumstances.

Children

Children can obtain both resident and temporary visas through their relationship with their parents or those seeking to adopt them. Our expertise in adoptions coupled with our immigration skills makes D & S Law the perfect team to assist with adoption related visas. In other cases, parents may choose to emigrate to New Zealand before their children, and the child later applies. The health of the child can on occasions be a potential barrier to a successful outcome, but D & S Law has the experience and skills to assist you through this process.

Parents

There are two main routes to residence for parents of New Zealand residents or citizens - through sponsorship by the New Zealand citizen or resident children or self-sponsor. Temporary visas for parents include multiple entry visitor visas (you do not need to apply each time), and guardian visas for parents accompanying their child who is studying in New Zealand. D & S Law has the experience to help guide you through all these policies.

Grandparents

Yes, even grandparents of New Zealand visa holders can obtain visas that allow multiple visits due to their family connection. Sometimes the health of our elders can cause problems for these visas, but D & S Law can help steer you through these issues so that families can be reunited.
